How Do We Test For Mold?

Air Sampling

Using a calibrated Zefon Bio-Pump Plus in conjunction with Air-O-Cell cassettes, air sampling is used to measure the genera and quantity of airborne mold spores within the target area. A minimum of one air sample from outside the structure is required for comparison purposes. Standard turnaround time is 2-3 business days. Next day service is available. Sample Air Report

Surface Sampling

Surface sampling is performed using a Zefon Bio-Tape or Sterile Swab. This type of sampling can be collected from a variety of surfaces to confirm the presence of mold growth, abnormal spore activity and identify mold genera present on the surface of concern. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis are available. Standard turnaround time is 2-3 business days. Next day service is available. Sample Surface Report

Bulk Material Sampling

A bulk material sample is essentially a small section (3” by 3”) of a material that you would like to have analyzed to confirm or deny the presence of mold growth. The lab will also analyze for abnormal spore activity and identify mold genera present within the material. An example of this could be an area of discolored attic insulation. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis are available. Standard turnaround time is 2-3 business days. Next day service is available. Sample Bulk Report

ERMI Sampling

The Environmental Relative Moldiness Index (ERMI) is a sampling of dust, generally collected from the living room and master bedroom using a DustCheck. The laboratory will analyze the dust sample using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and detect/quantify the presence of 36 specific mold species. A simple algorithm is used to calculate a ratio of water damage-related species to common indoor molds and the resulting score is called the Environmental Relative Moldiness Index or ERMI. Standard turnaround time is 5-10 business days. Expedited service is available. Sample ERMI Report

EMMA Mycotoxin Sampling

The Environmental Mold and Mycotoxin Assessment, or EMMA, is a highly sensitive test developed by RealTime Laboratories in 2019. The EMMA sample detects the presence of 10 toxigenic molds and the 16 mycotoxins with which they they are associated.
